Fusion Motorsport: Building a Modular Race Workshop for Formula 4
After 25 years in karting, Fusion Motorsport stepped up to Formula 4.
Dura designed and installed a bespoke four-bay race workshop built around the 600 Series modular workshop system, giving the team the structure to prepare single-seaters professionally and the flexibility to relocate as it grows.
Project at a glance
Client: Fusion Motorsport
Sector: Motorsport (Formula 4)
Challenge: A professional multi-car workshop in temporary premises
Solution: Bespoke four-bay layout using the 600 Series modular workshop system
Key features: 3.6m mobile workstation islands, integrated power, compressed air and waste management, dedicated roll cab per car, team colour finish
Outcome: Structured, consistent car preparation from workshop to trackside, in a layout that can be relocated and expanded
Background: From Karting to Formula 4
The move to Formula 4 was more than a change of vehicle. Preparing single-seater race cars brings greater technical demands, stricter standards and a heavier workshop preparation schedule, and it requires a more structured operational approach.
Fusion Motorsport used the transition to build a professional race operation from the ground up, and turned to Dura to create the workshop at its core. Dura brings three decades of experience across automotive, motorsport and specialist workshop environments.
The Challenge: A Structured Workshop That Could Move
The brief pulled in two directions. The workshop had to support multi-car preparation with clear organisation and consistency, but Fusion Motorsport’s premises were temporary until a permanent home was secured. The installation could not be fixed to the building.
The team needed:
- A dedicated work bay for each of its four Formula 4 cars, so mechanics could work independently without crossover.
- Secure storage for tools, spares and consumables in every bay.
- A mobile tool unit for each car that would travel with it to every event.
- A layout that could be dismantled, relocated and reconfigured without starting again.
The Solution: A Bespoke Four-Bay Layout Using the 600 Series
Dura’s in-house design team worked directly with Fusion Motorsport to develop a layout using the 600 Series, Dura’s award-winning modular workshop system.
Four dedicated vehicle bays
Each Formula 4 car has its own bay, separated by 3.6m workstation islands mounted on lockable castors. The islands can be moved when required but remain stable and rigid in use.
Each is formed from three sliding-door storage units, combining high storage capacity with a large worktop. Unlike hinged doors, the sliding doors stay open without protruding into the workspace, keeping contents accessible and preserving floor space around the car.
Integrated workshop services
A main cabinet run supports the islands, combining high-capacity storage with electrical power, compressed air and waste management built directly into the installation. Technicians have the services they need exactly where they work.
Dedicated roll cabs for every car
Every car has its own roll cab containing the tools for its preparation and maintenance. Each cab stays assigned to the same car all season and travels in the transporter on race weekends, so mechanics work with familiar tools whether they are in the workshop or at the circuit.
Finished in team colours
The furniture is finished in Fusion Motorsport’s team colours, creating a consistent identity from workshop to trackside and presenting a professional image to drivers, partners and visitors.
Built to relocate
The 600 Series is self-supporting and modular, so the entire workshop can be dismantled, reconfigured and relocated without modification, protecting Fusion Motorsport’s investment as its premises change.
“The whole point of what we’re doing is to provide a premium service and a premium product to our customers. Having a workshop solution that aligns with that means we’re starting from the right place.” – Dan Hazlewood, Director & Team Principal, Fusion Motorsport
The Results: Organisation, Consistency and Room to Grow
The four-bay layout has established clear working zones for each car. Tools, components and consumables stay organised and assigned to the correct vehicle, giving the team the procedural discipline a professional single-seater programme demands.
The roll cab system has created continuity between workshop and trackside. With each car’s mobile unit travelling with it all season, mechanics spend less time locating or transferring equipment between events.
Because the installation is modular and self-supporting, it can be reconfigured, relocated and expanded as Fusion Motorsport secures permanent premises and grows its operation, without the cost of starting again.
