These specialist environments are designed to support one of the most ambitious automotive engineering programmes in the world and, for the first time, these spaces can now be seen publicly, following exclusive behind the scenes access granted to Top Gear of the Red Bull RB17 hypercar.
Presented by Ollie Kew, Red Bull’s Technical Director Rob Gray walks Top Gear through the new hypercar in the workshop itself, placing the RB17 and the engineering environment that supports it side by side. The result is a rare look at a facility where form is deliberately restrained, allowing absolute focus on function, precision and performance, principles shared by both the car and the workspace surrounding it.
The RB17 is an extraordinary technical achievement, featuring a bespoke 4.5-litre Cosworth V10 producing 1,000bhp, supported by hybrid assistance and designed to deliver lap times comparable to modern Formula One machinery. Developed under the guidance of Adrian Newey and the Red Bull Advanced Technologies team, the project represents the very highest level of automotive engineering currently being undertaken in the UK.
